Community Driven and Inspired Destination Development

In the Spring of 2022, State of Washington Tourism supported a series of workshops designed to envision and create a thriving and sustainable tourism and outdoor recreation economy in Northeast Washington. Community tourism strategies can stimulate the local economy, protect and enhance local resources, and foster community pride.

Collaboration + Partnership =
Great Things

We brought together local leaders and people who work in tourism and outdoor recreation, to collaborate and align their efforts in partnership. Our goals included creating a vision of success, learning about national and global trends, identifying strategies to improve the visitor experience, and enriching local and regional economies.

What do YOU want tourism to look like in 10 years?

We began with a high-level conversation about the region’s future. Then the individual workshops focused on improving outdoor recreation and destination experiences, and developing regional branding and effective communication for our target markets.

Tourism is Economic Development

These workshops were for community members, public officials, conservation and outdoor recreation groups, tourism-related business owners, and anyone with an interest in strengthening the local economy through tourism and outdoor recreation.
